Sly Playgirl, Jaime Snider Win BI Special 5 Open
Sly Playgirl, owned by non-pro Luis De Armas, Boca Rotan, Fla., and ridden by trainer Jaime Snider, Burleson, Texas, dominated Monday’s Breeder’s Invitational Special 5 Open finals with a 224 and earned $72,757, including stallion and mare owner incentives.
A costly mistake during Sunday’s BI Classic/Challenge Open finals aboard the 5-year-old mare haunted trainer and rider Snider overnight, but he and the horse made up for it in a big way Monday morning.
Regardless of what happened Monday, Snider, 32, Burleson, Texas, was sure he and the mare (That Sly Cat x Taquitas Playgirl x Freckles Playboy) were not going to hot quit on a cow.
“I told my help, ‘I know that cow is going to be going the other direction before I quit. It won’t be looking. It won’t be close at all. I’m going to make sure it’s headed out the gate before I get off.’ That’s what I did. They were sure turned away this time.”

Ward Is Back And Better Than Ever at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows
North Salem, NY
Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist McLain Ward, Brewster, NY, announced loud and clear that he is back, as he blazed around the course of fences to win the $40,000 Old Salem Farm Grand Prix on Grant Road Partners’ Antares F at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Show.
A field of 33 starters tried to get the best of the Alan Wade designed course which turned back on itself numerous times and featured a stunningly designed water jump. Second in the order was Welcome Stake winner Katie Dinan, New York, NY, and her partner Nougat Du Vallet. The pair turned in the first clear round of the day. Jeffrey Welles, Wellington, FL, and Aries were the next pair to navigate the course cleanly to guarantee a jump off. Cara Raether, North Palm Beach, FL, and Lyonell followed suit to join the good list. Ward and Antares F would be the final pair to make it into the jump off.

Kentucky Spring Horse Show Wrap Up, May 9-13, 2012
Lexington, KY
Rain plagued the Kentucky Horse Park throughout the day on Sunday at the Kentucky Spring Classic, but it did not stop the country's top competitors as they entered the Rolex Stadium for the $75,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix. As the second U.S. Show Jumping Team Observation Event during the show, the grand prix event featured a challenging scope test, which only three Olympic hopefuls were able to master. Mario Deslauriers piloted Urico to the fastest clear jump-off to claim the victory, while 17-year-old Reed Kessler placed second aboard Mika with the other fault free round. Beezie Madden also advanced to the short course with both Simon and Cortes 'C', but placed third and fourth, respectively, after earning four faults with each.
Madden and Cortes 'C', owned by Abigail Wexner of New Albany, OH, were the first pair to show over the shortened course. They added four faults to their score sheet after making a sharp turn to a tall, skinny vertical. After crossing the finish line in 35.76 seconds, they eventually earned the fourth place award. Madden and her second mount, Simon, the victor from Friday's $50,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic, improved on the time with a 35.10 second finish, but a rail down in the double combination left them in the third place position.
New Lexington, KY, resident 17-year-old phenom Reed Kessler took her turn over the jump-off track with Mika, and with nerves of steel, Kessler once again showed the way and jumped to the top of the leader board with a clear round. They dashed through the finish line in 35.40 seconds, which would be good enough for second place. More info...
